In an era where telephone and online services are staples in our daily lives, it is more important than ever to safeguard personal data and protect yourself from cyber and telephone threats.
Our members’ personal information is of the highest importance to us, and we take specific measures to protect your sensitive data, including:
-
- Verifying your identity
When speaking with a member of our team on the phone or by email, we will ask you to verify your identity by providing your Pension ID. If you don’t know this number, we will ask you to provide the last four digits of your Social Insurance Number (SIN) to confirm your identity. We will never ask you to provide your full SIN over the phone. - Requiring written consent to make changes to your pension
We will not make any changes to your pension based on a request made over the phone or by email. To make a change to your pension, such as updating your banking details, members must complete the appropriate request form and submit it securely through myPENSION. Alternatively, you can return the form by mail or in person to TPPC. We recommend never sending private documents, such as your SIN or a copy of your passport, via email.
- We won’t email you requesting information
We will never email you to request sensitive information. While we’re happy to communicate by email if you contact us at memberservices@tppcnl.ca, we will not request that you share private details through this channel. - Following best practices
We follow industry-recommended practices for protecting your personal information. For more details related to these practices, please review our Privacy Statement.
While we take extensive steps to protect your data, you can also help safeguard your information by staying alert and following a few simple practices, including:
-
- Don’t respond to urgent or threatening language that pressures you to reply quickly
- Use strong, unique passwords and personal identification numbers (PINs) and don’t share them with others.
- Be wary of anyone asking for personal information. Don’t share private details unless you are confident you know who you’re dealing with.
- Don’t open any attachments or links from suspicious emails or text messages, especially if you don’t know the sender and weren’t expecting a message.
- Ensure your phone, tablet or other personal devices are kept up to date with the latest security updates. This will help keep you safe online.
Ensuring that confidential information stays private is a vital part of your personal security. If you ever have any questions or concerns related to your pension, please contact a member of our team.
