As life changes, such as getting married or going through a separation or divorce, your beneficiary information should too. You should review your beneficiary designation regularly to make sure it reflects your current wishes. You may wish to seek professional advice for estate planning purposes.
Why it matters
Designating your beneficiary is a small but important act. Providing information about your Principal Beneficiary (Spouse), Dependents, and Designated Beneficiaries helps ensure survivor benefits are paid out smoothly and without delay. If no beneficiary is named, any available benefits may default to your estate, which can mean additional administrative steps, probate fees, and extended wait times before benefits are paid out.
Complete your beneficiary form
You can designate your beneficiaries using one of two methods:
- Sign in to myPENSION and complete the Beneficiary Information section (found under Personal Information). Once populated, you must print the form, sign and date it, and have it witnessed. The form must be signed in ink by the applicant and witness; digital signatures are not accepted. Once completed, you can upload a scanned copy or photo of the form to myPENSION (found under Documents and Info).
- Or, complete the Beneficiary Designation Form and drop it off or mail it to our office at
